The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Snowfall in the Western Cape
CAPE TOWN - Mountain tops across the Western Cape are dotted with snow.
Residents of Worcester, Sutherland and George have reported seeing slopes dusted in white.
Worcester resident, Helena Smith, said it is a beautiful sight.
“Mountains are covered by snow.”
Linda Vaal, who lives in George, said it was a welcome surprise.
“It was overcast this morning and raining. When we went outside later we saw that the mountain was covered by a white blanket of snow.”
Meanwhile, a warning for heavy rain and snow has been issued for Cape Town.
The city centre has seen heavy downpours and sleet with certain areas reporting snow.
