Outeniqua Mountain fire still a mystery
This image of the Outeniqua mountain peaks on fire was captured in the early hours on Saturday morning from the farm, Tarentaalbos, next to Die Ark (former Els family farm) just outside George. Photo: Dylan Erasmus
GEORGE NEWS - Farmers and locals in the George area were very worried on Saturday morning when they woke to find the Outeniqua mountain peaks on fire.
The fire was fanned by a strong Northwesterly wind, raising concern that the fire would spread down the southern slopes.
The very welcome heavy rain that came a few hours later, put an end to the fire that had already started to wane.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and rumours that a light aircraft crashed into the mountain are, according to disaster management, completely unfounded.
