The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Two men die in fires in Cape Town
HEIDEVELD: At 01:05 on Saturday, 25 August 2012 a fire destroyed six (6) backyard dwellings resulting in 10 people been left homeless at No. 36, 38 and 40 Cockscomb Street, Heideveld. Gregory Visagie (39 years) died of fatal burn wounds. The victims were provided with food parcels, clothing, blankets and building material.
KHAYELITSHA: At 05:15 on Sunday, 26 August 2012 a fire occurred at 3010 BM Section, Khayelitsha. One (1) shack was destroyed by the fire. Nkosi Dyane (30 years) that was burnt beyond recognition
The circumstances regarding the occurrence of the fires are unconfirmed and the SAPS have opened an inquest to investigate these incidents.
