Rescue teams in KZN are expected to resume efforts to recover the bodies of three people who died in an horrific plane crash outside Cato Ridge yesterday.
The group was travelling in a light aircraft from Pietermaritzburg to Newcastle.
Police were alerted to the tragedy at around 5.15pm in the afternoon, after operators lost communication with the plane as it flew over the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
Police teams camped overnight near the crash site, deep in the mountains.
Heavy rain lashing parts of the province made recovery efforts impossible yesterday afternoon.
The Mkhambatini area is remote and mountainous and rescuers who searched the burnt wreckage last night had to walk several kilometres to reach the site.
A police chopper will carry pathologists to the area today, to help identify the bodies.
These details will be released once the victims' families are informed.
They were badly burned, as the plane is believed to have burst into flames after the crash.
