Large Trough over Western Half of S.A - 13 October

Well now, while Spring has been slow coming for the Western Cape with only a few bouts of warm weather, looking at todays GFS, it looks as though we may (though it's still a long way out) be in for some good old spring time thunderstorms.

The GFS is showing a very broad area of low pressure extending down from Namibia and Botswana, covering most of the Western half of the country on Saturday. Judging from the rainfall distribution associated with the trough, it's expected to bring a fairly large field of moisture and instability.

This is a very distinct spring to summer looking pattern, the 10'C line is south passed Cape Town, indicating that this would not be a cold weather event. And frontal activity only exists far to the south of the country. Will definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
