Fire gutted St Francis Bay canals declared a no-go area
The Kouga Municipality says all the homes and buildings damaged in Sunday's devastating fires at St Francis Bay have been declared unsafe.
As such people have been urged not to enter burnt out structures until furthers notice.
Kouga says its joint operations centre will meet on Tuesday after which it will indicate to home-owners how to proceed should they wish to inspect their properties.
Kouga executive mayor, Booi Koerat, says they're expecting preliminary reports on the fire later this week.
"We are still awaiting the report which we request from our technical services even the investigation from the police will be available on Thursday. We did ask them to do an evaluation of how bad the disaster was in our area" Koerat said.
Meanwhile, Koerat says any future decision on amendments to building regulations for St Francis Bay will have to be taken by a full council.
He says this will also have to be done in consultation with local residents as the decision to build white houses with thatched roofs had been taken decades ago.
