Adult male hospitalised after swimming under the influence at Muizenberg

At approximately 11:50 today [Saturday, 22 December 2012] the disaster management volunteers together with the City’s Law Enforcement Marine Unit responded to an adult male in distress at Muizenberg Beach.

Senzo Tnisan (28 years) that resides in the Barcelona Informal Settlement (Nyanga) nearly drowned and was recovered from the water by disaster management volunteers and the City’s Law Enforcement Marine Unit.

After the patient was assessed and declared stable whereafter he was transported to the False Bay Hospital by an ambulance of the Western Cape Government: Department of Health [METRO Emergency Medical Services] for near drowning symptoms.

The officers on the scene confirmed that the man was under the influence at the time of incident.

The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre appeals to bathers not to drink before swimming as it dulls the senses, slows the reactions and can lead to irresponsible behaviour.
