The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Major changes to the SAWDOS Blog, SAWDOS Twitter Accounts and SAWDOS Facebook Group Pages
Due to personal circumstances I am forced to make certain changes to the SAWDOS Blog, SAWDOS Twitter Accounts and SAWDOS Facebook Group Pages.
Some viewers might have already noticed the following change:
SAWDOS: Road Closures during Severe Weather and Disasters.
The following changes /re-structuring will take place over the next few weeks:
1. SAWDOS BLOG: Only South African weather and disaster information and content will be published in future with the exception of a major world disaster where South African rescue and relief personnel are involved. The SAWDOS will also no longer publish Africa weather and disaster information unless there is a possibility that South Africa may be effected. The SAWDOS will however continue to publish educational and research content from NASA. Further changes will be published as and when they are made.
2. SAWDOS TWITTER ACCOUNTS: Our overseas readers will not be left in the dark as a result of the SAWDOS Blog changes. SAWDOS created two SAWDOS Twitter accounts. One to be used to tweet real time South African weather and disaster information and the other to tweet World Wide weather and disaster information. Our overseas readers will be able to keep abreast with severe weather and disasters via the SAWDOS World Wide Twitter page.
3. SAWDOS FACEBOOK GROUP PAGES: Only the SAWDOS will in future be able to post on the SAWDOS Facebook Group Timeline. We suggest that members/friends use the SAWDOS Facebook Group pages to post weather and disaster information. The Timeline will be used to publish extra ordinary images, info and data received from observers and friends. Further changes to the SAWDOS Facebook Group and Timeline pages will be announced in due coarse.
Further changes will be made to SAWDOS social media accounts over the next few weeks. SAWDOS will however keep our readers informed of these changes as and when they are made and implemented. It is necessary to make these changes. I am convinced that all the info previously published will still be available to our readers. All that will be needed is just to click on a link and you will be able to read your favorite content on the original source pages.
These changes are essential. What started as a hobby has now grown into a fully fledged weather and disaster observation service. With no personnel employed by the SAWDOS, the founder is the only person that publish and edit weather and disaster content received from the public, media and other roll players. Changes are necessary to ensure that SAWDOS can continue to bring you the latest up to date information relating to weather and disaster information. Apart from that the founder is also involved in several practical SAWDOS projects amongst others to assist scholars, students and several University graduates with weather and disaster projects and information.
SAWDOS trust that our readers will not be inconvenience by the above changes. Our reader will still be able to view the latest news relating to weather and disaster by the clicking of a button or link.
