Johannesburg - A recreational diver drowned in the Henley-on-Klip lake in Meyerton on Wednesday night, paramedics said.
The man in his 20s was doing recreational diving at night when he got into difficulty, said ER 24 spokesperson Derrick Banks.
He said people on the scene started cardio pulmonary resuscitation because he was not breathing.
"Paramedics arrived and tried to resuscitate him. After a long battle, he was declared dead on the scene."
Banks said it was not clear what had happened as the man was not in deep water.
