The Mpumalanga Provincial Government on Tuesday said it expects more rain this week and remains on full alert following floods in the area that killed at least six people in January.
The government's Simphiwe Kunene said that while water flow in rivers and dams have subsided, crossing them remains extremely dangerous.
Areas in and around the Kruger National Park were flooded after heavy rains late last week.
“We are likely to receive more rains during the week,” said Kunene.
“We are on full alert and we will continue to monitor the area.”
He also said relief efforts were underway and construction had begun at homes and schools damaged by the floods.
Kunene said the Health Department is also monitoring the risk of waterborne diseases.
