Port Elizabeth - A Port Elizabeth man was seriously injured when he flew a light aircraft into power cables on a farm in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.
Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said 55-year-old Frans Griesel hit the power cables on Wednesday night and his plane crashed on a gravel road on the Tangle Woods farm.
A local farmer saw the crash and alerted emergency services, Swart said.
Griesel was taken to the Life St George's Hospital in Port Elizabeth where he was in a serious, but stable condition.
Swart said aviation authorities from Pretoria would fly in on Thursday to investigate the incident.
