Two more bodies of people believed to have been washed away in a violent storm on New Years Eve in the Msinga area have been recovered in the Midlands.
Co-operative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube says the bodies were found yesterday in a river in Kranskop near Greytown.
She says five people lost their lives in the storm. One of the victims was struck by lightning.
Dube says around 300 houses were also destroyed by the heavy rain.
She has explained the latest discovery has brought the confirmed death toll to seven.
"Last week we buried a toddler, which was very sad because the child's mother had not been found," she said.
"We [have not yet] positively identified the bodies, and we will then be assisting the families to ensure they lay their loved ones to rest in a dignified manner."
The MEC says the search for the other two missing people is continuing.
