Johannesburg – ‘n Elfjarige seun het in ‘n plaasdam in Alexandria naby Grahamstad verdrink, het die polisie in die Oos-Kaap Dinsdag gesê.
Hy het saam met vriende in die dam geswem toe hy Maandag omstreeks 16:00 onder die water verdwyn het, het kapt. Mali Govender gesê.
Sy vriende kon hom nie opspoor nie en die polisie is ingeroep om met die soektog te help. Sy lyk is later op die bodem van die dam gevind.
‘n Geregtelike doodsondersoek sal gedoen word.
Govender sê die polisie is bekommerd oor die toenemende hoeveelheid kinders wat sonder toesig swem.
Sommige kinders bind leë plastiek-koeldrankbottels aan hul arms vas, maar dit oorkom nie die gevare wat met swem sonder toesig verband hou nie, het sy gesê.
