The Brazilian navy says two people are missing after a fire broke out in Brazil's research station in Antarctica.
The navy says in an emailed statement that the fire broke out Saturday morning in the machine room that houses the energy generators of the Comandante Ferraz station that began operations in 1984.
The website of the Estado de S. Paulo newspaper says the two missing men died in the fire. The navy's press office declined comment.
The statement says one man suffered non-life threatening injuries. The 44 people at the station at the time of the fire were transferred by helicopter to Chile's Eduardo Frei station.
The statement says the fire has still not been controlled. No further information was immediately available.
