Overberg officials believe a group of children started the fire that is currently raging in mountains above Caledon.
The blaze quickly spread on Sunday afternoon, shortly after firefighters managed to extinguish a fire in Stanford near Hermanus.
The municipality's Reinard Geldenhuys said, “Unconfirmed reports said another fire was set in the same area this afternoon, that has now become a part of the same fire.”
Meanwhile, a helicopter has been deployed to help ground crews contain a veld fire in Hout Bay.
Nearly a dozen fire trucks and more than 30 firefighters are currently on scene.
