The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety & Security, Alderman Jean-Pierre Smith, will respond to various situations with staff of the Fire & Services the ensure to effective and efficient management of incidents to help persons in distress during emergencies.
The City’s Fire & Rescue & Services fights fires to prevent loss of life, and/or destruction of property and the environment.
Firefighting is a highly technical skill that requires professionals who have spent years training in both general firefighting techniques and specialised areas of expertise.
The City also provides additional functions such as emergency medical services dedicated to providing out-of-hospital acute medical care, transport to definitive care, and other medical transport to patients with illness and injuries which prevent patients from transporting themselves.
The added function of pre-hospitalisation element of care of patients is provided in support of intergovernmental support to the Health Department of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape in an integrated manner to save lives.

These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.
