Pretoria boy electrocuted

The Gauteng Department of Education is investigating the death of a Laudium Heights Primary School pupil who was electrocuted.

On Monday, 11-year-old Thando van Rooyen and his cousin are believed to have climbed the palisade fence of a house opposite the school, while waiting to be picked up.

The boys apparently climbed the fence to get a better view of a fish pond in a Pretoria home.

An electric fence is fitted above the palisade fence.

When Van Rooyen slipped, he was electrocuted and his head got jammed between the bars.

Department’s spokesperson Charles Phahlane said investigations will look at the issue of liability.
