Sasol confirmed that a miner was killed in an accident at the Secunda Middlebult mine on Friday.
It is not yet clear what caused the accident but it is believed that one side of a wall collapsed.
Sasol’s Jacqui O’Sullivan said, “The accident occurred just after 9pm on Friday night. The circumstances around the accident are still being investigated. Senior management are on the scene and colleagues have been dispatched to notify the next of kin.”
