Search for paddler off Port Shepstone


Police Search and Rescue members as well as NSRI have commenced with a search for a paddler believed to have fallen off a paddle ski on Thursday 2012-02-09 off Port Shepstone beach front.

Shortly after 07:00 a paddle ski was spotted by a civilian and he alerted the police and NSRI.

According to the eyewitness He saw the object approximately 1km out at sea. W/Off Francois Pretorius and W/Off Marc Wiid from the police search and rescue section in Port Shepstone boarded an NSRI vessel together with NSRI crew.

After searching the area, the paddle ski with oars were located in the vicinity of Tweni beach. However there was no sign of a paddler. Sgt Rommel da Rosa from police Search and rescue, boarded a police helicopter which was summoned from Durban to assist with the search. It is unknown at this stage who the paddler might be and no one has contacted the police as yet regarding a missing paddler.

The search is continuing.
