The City of Cape Town has warned the wreck of the Seli 1vessel must be removed before winter to prevent the procedure's costs from skyrocketing.
The municipality planning to declare an inter-governmental dispute, after the national departments of transport and environmental affairs failed to attend scheduled meetings.
The Seli 1 ran aground off Bloubergstrand in September 2009.
The city's JP Smith said costs would exceed the R30 million estimates, if the wreck is not removed by June.
“There are time frames and in winter it will take longer to remove it and that will push up the costs."
