Durban - A woman and her two children died and a man was injured when their house caught fire in Mbitane outside KwaMaphumulo, KwaZulu-Natal authorities said on Tuesday.
Police were called on Monday afternoon when the house was on fire, Community Safety MEC Willies Mchunu said in a statement.
When police arrived, they found the burnt bodies of the 48-year-old mother and her 5- and 8-year-old sons. The injured man was taken to Umphumulu Hospital, he said.
"I am shocked to hear that people have died such traumatic deaths. The police will work hard to get to the bottom of this," he said.
