A 4 metres great white shark was discovered in the bay at Fish Hoek beach on Sunday, 11 March 2012.
The carcass has been towed to the Simon’s Town Naval base by the Shark Explorer vessel of the Department of Environmental Affairs – Oceans & Coasts Branch (Marine & Coastal Management).
The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre was called upon to assist the Department of Environmental Affairs and the SA Navy with the logistical arrangements.
The carcass was removed by the City’s disaster response teams to the facility of the Department of Environmental Affairs in Paarden Eiland.
A necropsy will be undertaken by scientists of the Department of Environmental Affairs to establish the cause of death of the great white shark.
