Rescue workers search for missing passengers after a ferry accident in Munshigong, Bangladesh, on March 13, 2012
(CNN) -- Rescuers searched frantically for survivors Tuesday after a packed ferry carrying more than 150 people capsized in south Bangladesh.
The ferry sank in the Meghna river after it collided with another vehicle early Tuesday morning. It was traveling to Dhaka, the nation's capital, from Shariatpur district.
By Tuesday evening, authorities rescued 35 people and recovered 25 bodies, said police superintendent Shahabuddin Khan. About 100 people were still missing, he said.
Ferry accidents are common on Bangladesh's vast river network.
Hundreds of people die in such accidents every year as the operators often ignore rules.
