At 13:51 on Sunday, 18 March 2012, a fire destroyed 38 informal structures in Heinz Park near Phillipi.
The fire resulted in the displacement of 150 people (65 adults, 78 children and 7 babies).
All persons have been accounted for – no persons sustained injuries.
The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre provided humanitarian relief aid in the form of food parcels, clothing, baby packs, blankets and building material to the fire victims.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and the authorities will probe an investigation.

The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.
