During the early hours of Saturday, 03 March 2012 two fires caused havoc in Cape Town.
In the first fire that broke out at 01:53 at Site 5, Du Noon, near Table View, the blaze destroyed 8 shacks leaving 30 people homeless. The fire caused the death of a male minor.
The second fire occurred that occurred at 04:20 that gutted 9 shacks resulting in the displacement of 25 persons at QQ Section, Mew Way, Khayelitsha. One adult male was burnt beyond recognition – his identity is unknown.
The City’s disaster response teams will be assisting the fire victims during the course of the day with food parcels, clothing, blankets and building material.
The cause of these fires is unknown and the authorities will probe an investigation.
