The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu- Natal on Sunday said it was worried the situation there may worsen following heavy floods in parts of the province.
This is due to cyclone Irina which was downgraded to torrential rainfall.
A woman broke both her legs after her mud hut collapsed on top of her in Jozini.
Up to 300 homes were flooded and officials were busy with evacuations and mop up operations to alleviate the situation.
The department’s Vernon Mchunu said, “We evacuated the affected community to a nearby hall. At the moment, there are isolated incidents where vehicles have failed to pass through certain roads because of flooding.”
