A man is in a critical condition after his arm was trapped in a meat mincer at a packing facility in Promosa in Potchefstroom in the North West Province this afternoon.
The cause of the incident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of an internal and department of labour investigation.
Common cause information indicates that the worker had been feeding meat into the mincer when his hand became caught in the moving parts of the machine. His arm up until the point of his elbow was drawn into the machine.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man standing with his arm caught inside the mincer. They immediately initiated care while fighters set about removing the machine from his fastenings.
He was stabilised at the scene and transported by ambulance to the Potchefstroom State Hospital for further critical care.
