Medair: Emergency Response after Cyclone Giovanna

After our Medair team assessed the damage done by Cyclone Giovanna in Madagascar, we launched an emergency response in Vatomandry. Due to the extreme remoteness and lack of accessibility of this town of 40,000, getting aid to the residents is especially challenging. Have a look at a few photos of our team’s response in Vatomandry.

An estimated 60 percent of the houses in the Vatomandry area have been destroyed.

Not only did families lose their homes, but water sources have been contaminated or destroyed.

The people in Vatomandry urgently needed clean water to drink and provisions for basic hygiene needs.

So the Medair team set out to distribute WASH kits containing buckets, chlorine solution for disinfecting drinking water, cups, and soap.

We handed out five thousands kits in short order

Each kit is adequate to meet the water and hygiene needs for a family of six.

Our team loved seeing the smiling faces of the people in Vatomandry when they came for their WASH kits.

And okay, we have to admit that we’re rather fond of this photo one of our staff took of the local kids showing off for the camera. Simply too cute!
