Deputy International Relations Minister Marius Fransman called on the international community to join South African government and aid groups in helping storm-hit Madagascar on Tuesday.
Fransman was distributing some of the $100,000 (R760,000) worth of humanitarian aid his delegation brought to the island on Tuesday.
He heard from Madagascar’s National Disaster Risk Management Agency that tropical storm Irina killed over 72 people and left another 70, 000 homeless earlier this month.
Devastating Cyclone Giovanna hit the island a forth night ago.
Fransman said help from South Africa was a joint government and private sector effort, but that it should stretch wider.
