Cape Town firefighters will undergo basic forensic training to improve their skills and capabilities during investigations, Cape Town city bosses said on Thursday.
City Councilor JP Smith said international experts will be teaching local crews how to investigate the cause and origin of a blaze.
“What one feels with single fatality fires is that something might be wrong because someone may be concealing evidence of foul play.”
Smith said the training will be significant when they do their work.
“It is important that we are able to do thorough forensic investigations.”
