One crew member, possibly the captain, was missing on Monday after a tanker carrying more than 2 000 tons of fuel sank off the coast of the Greek capital, the coastguard said.
The ship which had a Greek crew of 11 went down around 08.30 GMT off the industrial suburb of Eleusina. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
The tanker carried 1 800 tons of fuel oil and about 250 tons of diesel but it was not immediately clear whether there was a risk to the environment.
Ten crew members were safe, while rescue services were searching for a 48-year-old man, possibly the captain, according to the coastguard.
