The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.

Tropical storm Irina is forecast to strike South Africa at about 12:00 GMT on 4 March.
Tropical storm Irina is forecast to strike South Africa at about 12:00 GMT on 4 March. Data supplied by theUS Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Centersuggest that the point of landfallwill benear27.7 S,33.6 E.Irina is expected to bring 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around64 km/h (40 mph).Wind gusts in the area maybeconsiderably higher.
