Beached whale raises shark alert in Knysna
GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Knysna Municipality has issued an urgent warning that residents and visitors must avoid the coastal waters in the area due to the presence of a large number of sharks.
Municipal manager, Lauren Waring explained that a beached whale at Buffalo Bay is probably attracting the sharks to local waters. She gave her assurance that the municipality is working with SANParks, Cape Nature, Eden District Municipality, the Department of Environmental Affairs and private specialists to assess and manage the situation.
The carcass of the Bryde's Whale was found about 17:00 yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, April 11) where it had washed up on rocks at Buffalo Bay.
The carcass has not yet been removed.
