Construction worker fights for life after twenty meter plunge

A construction worker is fighting for his life in a Pretoria Hospital after an eighteen meter plunge from a building under construction onto a truck carrying steel rods in Pretoria this afternoon.

The cause of the accident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain.

Common cause information indicates that the man had been working on one of the upper levels of the unfinished building when he lost his footing and fell. The man plunged nearly twenty meters and landed on a flat bed truck which was parked adjacent to the structure.

Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man in a critical condition, having sustained severe head trauma. Advanced life support paramedics immediately initiated care, intubating the man and placing him on a manual ventilator.

He was transported by ambulance to a specialist hospital for further urgent treatment.
