Fire in USA on Sunday, 15 April, 2012 at 03:59 (03:59 AM) UTC.

Some 20 firefighters were injured Saturday afternoon but none seriously after a fast-moving blaze tore through four buildings in the Bronx, officials said. Two of the firefighters were injured when part of the floor at 726 Van Nest Ave. in the Morris Park section collapsed, fire officials said. “It’s a real disaster now,” FDNY Assistant Chief Ronald Spadafora said. “You have four structures that are damaged very severely.” He said 200 firefighters worked on the blaze that started around 1:15 p.m. The fire was under control by 3:45., he said. The two firefighters were searching for survivors when part of the floor collapsed, Spadafora said. The Red Cross said 11 people were left homeless. Eddie Gomez, 34, said he was in his second-floor apartment alone, thankfully. “I didn’t see smoke or anything,” said Gomez, who lives with his three children. “I ran outside and saw all the flames.” A tax service located on the bottom floor of the building was destroyed. “All the photographs, the kids clothes, all the memories, they’re gone,” Gomez said. “When the kids go back to school Monday, and they don’t have any clothes, I don’t know what I’ll do.” The fire is under investigation, officials said.
