A "cut-off low" is situated along the west coast. This resulted in heavy rain in the Northern Cape and thunderstorms in some areas of the Western Cape. Further heavy rain can be expected tonight in the Northern Cape, Western Cape, Karoo and Southern Cape areas. Keep a close eye on this system for further development in the next 12 hours. Also be on the lookout for possible flash flooding in areas should further heavy rain fall in the mentioned areas. E-News reported 80mm of rain in the Upington area since yesterday. The SAWDOS received the following rainfall report for the Northern Cape:

The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many South Africans. To obtain critical weather information, the SAWDOS use voluntary weather observers. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe and informed by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the SAWDOS for publication on the Blog. The SAWDOS is a non-profit organization that renders a FREE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE.
