Johannesburg - One person was killed and one injured in two separate fires in Johannesburg on Sunday morning, emergency services said.
Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said a shack caught fire in an informal settlement in Protea South, in Soweto.
"Only one person was in the shack when it caught fire and he was declared dead on the scene. The cause of death might be smoke inhalation."
Earlier, a fire broke out in a block of flats in Hillbrow, in the Johannesburg city centre.
Mulaudzi said the fire broke out at 03:30 on the sixth floor.
"The fire was extinguished by 05:30. One man was transported to the hospital after he jumped from the second floor of the building."
Mulaudzi said the cause of both the fires would be investigated.
