Kogel bay will stay closed - CT officials

Officials from the City of Cape Town confirmed on Sunday that Kogel Bay beach, near Gordon's Bay, will remain closed following a fatal shark attack this week.

David “Warrior” Lilienfield was killed after being bitten by a four-meter-long Great White shark on Thursday.

The Springbok was bodyboarding with his brother Gustav, at a spot commonly referred to as the caves.

The entire area has since been closed to all beach goers.

City spokesperson Gregg Oelofse said shark spotters deployed to the area had not seen any sharks since the incident.

Lilienfeld’s friends and relatives gathered at a Camps Bay beach on Saturday, to “celebrate his life”.

The crowd of mostly surfers and bodyboarders participated in a paddle-out, in memory of the 20-year-old.
