Traffic authorities will be out in full force on the major highways on Thursday with the Easter holiday rush expected to peak.
The N3 to KwaZulu-Natal, N4 to Mpumalanga and the N1 towards Limpopo are expected to be the busiest.
It is hoped the death toll will be lower than in 2011.
Transport Department spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso said they have been doing their bit.
“As far as dedication is concerned, we have started our road safety Easter activations to make sure we enforce the rules of the road without exception."
He called on motorists fasten their seatbelts when driving.
