Pollution of Knysna Estuary

KNYSNA NEWS - Sporadic reports are being received from concerned fishermen and Knysna residents regarding the alleged ongoing pollution of the Knysna Estuary.

"I am sure that the municipality is releasing raw sewage into the lagoon, the channel water is always grey at night," claimed one such fisherman.

He and several other fishermen have claimed that condoms, toilet paper and raw sewage drift past their boats while out fishing in the Ashmead channel.

"We are by no means dumping raw sewerage into the lagoon," said Knysna municipal manager, Lauren Waring. "It has come to our attention that people conduct their activities illegally at Cathy Park and used condoms, paper and wrappers are then thrown into the reed beds and eventually find their way to the channel."
