Durban – Die eThekwini-munisipaliteit het R1,7 miljoen opsy gesit vir die slagoffers van ‘n brand wat 176 hutte in die Kennedy Road- informele nedersetting in Durban verwoes het, het ‘n regeringswoordvoerder Donderdag gesê.
“Die provinsiale regering het begin om boumateriaal te voorsien om inwoners te help met die opbou van hul huise nadat ‘n brand Dinsdagaand verwoesting in die omgewing gesaai het,” het Thabo Mofokeng, woordvoerder van die eThekwini-munisipaliteit, gesê.
Mofokeng sê die oorsaak van die brand is nie bekend nie.
Twee mense is vir ligte beserings behandel.
Ravi Pillay, die LUR vir menslike nedersettings en openbare werke, die burgemeester James Nxumalo en Nigel Gumede, voorsitter van die eThekwini menslike nedersettings-komitee, het die gebied Woensdag besoek om die omvang van die skade vas te stel.
Die slagoffers word in ‘n plaaslike gemeenskapsaal gehuisves.
