A fire occurred at 10:41 at 10:41 on Wednesday, 23 May 2012 at 42 Kuphumleni Street, Happy Valley, Kuils River.
One shack (backyard dwelling) was guttered as a result of the fire leaving 8 people displaced – two families living at the address were affected.
The first family consisted of 3 people; and the second family of 3 adults and 5 children. A 5 year old male was taken to Eerste River Hospital for medical treatment.
A 2 year old male, Avan Dreyer, died in the fire.
The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre assisted the families with food parcels, blankets, clothing and building material.
Arrangements have also been made for the families to receive trauma counselling as a result of the loss of life of the 2 year old male.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
An inquest docket has been opened and the SAPS will investigate the incident.
