A group of children were playing at the school when it is believed that a large cement water pipe usually used for water drainage, fell onto him.
The incident details remain unclear, but ER24 paramedics from Bloemfontein were called in to the primary school to treat the injured boy. When they arrived on scene they found the seven year old in a critical condition, having suffered extensive head and chest injuries.
Advanced Life Support care was immediately initiated and paramedics tried as best they could to stabilise the little boy while they were still on scene. The child was placed on life saving equipment and rushed through to a nearby hospital for further care, all the while treating the boy for his injuries.
The boy remains in a critical condition at Pelonimi Hospital.
No other children had been injured in the incident.
