Don't miss the Transit of Venus on June 5-6, 2012!

Don’t miss the Transit of Venus! The next possible time to see it will be in 2117. Our team will bring it all to you from one spot, http://venustransit.nasa.gov . This is going to be an exciting world-wide event.

We will have a map on the home page that identifies feeds of events for the transit and telescope feeds from sites around the world. Of course, our primary site will be Mauna Kea Hawaii at the 14,000 ft. summit. Other sites include Alaska, Australia, India, Norway, the UK and some of our NASA sites. We will include a link for NASA TV as well so you can follow the transit around the World if NASA TV is available in your museum or school.

We will have images from the International Space Station taken by Don Pettit and images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory. You can even see Venus approaching the Sun from the SOHO satellite. Don’t forget to use the Space Weather Media Viewer. Our Sun is very active right now so, if you haven’t done so already, be sure to down load the free app and see the active Sun. This will be quite different than the quiet Sun in 2004.

Join the Parallax Observing Certificate Program and follow the directions to add your own images to the Flickr site. View the new videos that tell the history of the transit and the cultural impact. Everything is available on the website.

Our social network is ready for all of your responses, so join us on:

There will be a NASA social at NASA AMES, and Tweet Meets from Alaska and the Imiloa Cultural Center in Hilo Hawaii.

Don’t forget June 5-6, 2012 depending on your location. Check out http://venustransit.nasa.gov and click on Venus Transit for all of the information.
