A four-year-old girl died at a Klerksdorp hospital after a drowning incident in a swimming pool at a residence late yesterday afternoon.
The cause of the incident and the series of events preceding it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information indicates that the girl had fallen into the uncovered swimming pool and was immersed for a prolonged period. She was pulled by the water by a family member who immediately called 082 911.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the girl breathless and with no pulse. They started CPR and despite their best efforts to revive her, she was declared dead on arrival at the nearby private hospital.
