A man is fighting for his life in the Netcare Union Hospital after he was crushed by falling tractor tyre on a farm in Boksburg late on Friday.
The cause of the accident and the series of events leading up to it remain uncertain and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information indicates that the man had been one of several men assisting with the change of tyre when the large object toppled over and pinned him to the ground. He was trapped underneath it for over an hour before he was freed and emergency medical personnel were called.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man in a critical condition, having sustained severe crush trauma to his pelvis and abdomen. He was stabilised at the scene and transported by ambulance to hospital.
