I am rather concerned about the fate of the 50-metre-long fishing trawler the Eihatsu Maru stranded off First Beach, Clifton. The current sea conditions is not conducive to salvaging the trawler. Very rough seas with wave heights from 4 to 6m are expected between Lamberts Bay and East London overnight tomorrow night. Big waves could push the vessel even further towards the beach. I am not familiar with First Beach at Clifton and how rough sea conditions can get but even with 2 - 4 meter waves the salvage process could become a nightmare. The longer it takes to get the ship off the sand the more the risk increase for a full scale disaster. Let's hope that this trawler does not become the Seli 2.
