A 13 year old boy has been airlifted by the ER24 Discovery Medicopter after he allegedly fell from his mountain bike this morning and suffered serious injuries.

The teenager and his dad were out on a mountain bike ride on a farm in Nooitgedacht between the N14 Krugersdorp highway and the R114. The young man allegedly came around a corner and for some reason lost control before be was flung over the front of the handle bars. Paramedics were called in as the boy appears to have lost consciousness.

The JHB North paramedics were helped by a bystander with a bakkie to get to the scene, as the ambulance would not be able to make it through the rough terrain. They arrived to find the boy still lying on the ground, and he was in a confused state complaining of pain to his neck and back. The paramedics then activated the ER24 Discovery Medicopter as this would be the best possible way to get the boy to hospital, further protecting his neck and back from injury.

The Medicopter arrived on scene and airlifted the 13 year old to the Life Fourways Hospital where he would undergo further observations and the necessary care.
