Johannesburg - A woman who was injured when she parachuted without the permission of her parents has won her court case against the Witbank Skydiving Club.
The North Gauteng High Court found the club was liable for whatever damages Euleine de Kock, 21, was able to prove against them.
De Kock was 17 when, on May 17 2008 she broke her left leg, sustained soft tissue damage to her neck and injured her back when she completed a static line jump from 3 500 feet, Beeld newspaper reported.
In a static line jump a cord attached to the plane and the jumper's backpack deploys the parachute.
De Kock, now 21, is claiming about R305 000 in damages.
She says the club, and her instructor, are liable for her damages as they permitted the jump, although she was a minor and did not have permission from her parents.
Acting Judge Norman Davis found although the club required an indemnity form, it was not substantial enough.
