INTERNATIONAL NEWS - Two people were killed and 10 were missing when a ferry sank Wednesday in stormy seas in the western Philippines, the coast guard said.
Twenty-two passengers and 16 crew members were rescued from the seas near Pagawanin Island off El Nido town in Palawan province, 435 kilometres south-west of Manila.
The coast guard said search and rescue teams were looking for 10 other passengers from the vessel, which was battered by big waves on its way to El Nido before dawn.
The weather bureau has warned of rough seas due to strong winds brought about by the south-west monsoon.
